BIOGRAPHY
Valerie Oberleithner (born in 1978) is an Austrian choreographer and performer living in Paris. Her works concentrate on new ways of collaboration between artists, audience, curators and institutions. She focuses on the transformative potential of performance and the common experience performance can offer.
Valerie is working in Belgium, France and Austria. Her works were shown in various international renowned venues and festivals such as Palais de Tokyo, Paris, ImPulsTanz Festival Vienna, eXplore Festival Bucarest, Working Title Festival Brussels and imagetanz Festival, Vienna. Valerie worked with internationally renowned choreographers and companies such as Jennifer Lacey (FR\US), Oleg Soulimenko (AT\RU), SUPERAMAS (FR\AT), Boris Charmatz (FR), Ivana Mueller (FR\HR), Amanda Pina (AT\CL), Magdalena Chowaniec (AT\PL) a.o.
Since 2008 Valerie is teaching dance, choreography and composition in Austria and France. She obtains a bachelor in contemporary dance (Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Linz, Austria), she was a receiver of the danceweb scholarship in 2008, she studied Literature Science/Philology and media science at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz, Austria. Valerie was brought up in Austria, Germany and the United States (Connecticut).
Valerie´s own artistic projects include Show Me!, in collaboration with Olivier Tirmarche, Pittoresque, in collaboration with Fanni Futterknecht, Splendid Isolation, in collaboration with Olivier Tirmarche and Jennifer Lacey, [J-1] in collaboration with Raul Maia and Olivier Tirmarche, iChoreography, in collaboration with Magdalena Chowaniec and Quartiers en mouvement in collaboration with Martine Marras.
Splendid Isolation was presented in the context of [8:tension] Young Choreographers' Series, ImPulsTanz 2011 and was nominated for the Prix Jardin at the eXplore dance festival Bucharest in October 2011.
Valerie is part of happynest, a professionalizing platform supporting emerging artists in Hauts-de-France. In the frame of happynest she is giving coaching on physical presence, body awareness and choreography and is teaching Capsule #3 - choreography.
2022/2023 Valerie has been teaching the module dance analysis in movement at the Paris Lodron University Salzburg.
Valerie is regular guest-teacher at the PCA (Paris College Of Art) teaching body awareness and collaboration.
2023/2024 she is part of the EU research project Voices Empower initiated by Paris Lodron University Salzburg, Austria.
Valerie collaborated with film maker Valeria Bruni Tedeschi on her recent film Les Amandiers, with film maker Catherine Corsini on her recent film Le Retour, with film maker Florian Pochlatko on his recent film How To Be Normal and with film maker Aurélia Georges on her latest film La place d’ une autre: Valerie is coaching actors, actresses and film makers in physical presence, movement quality and choreography.
